  • Examining individuals with impairment, functional limitation, and disability or other health-related conditions in order to determine a diagnosis, prognosis, and intervention.

  • Alleviating impairment and functional limitation by designing, implementing, and modifying therapeutic interventions.

  • Preventing injury, impairment, functional limitation, and disability including the promotion and maintenance of fitness, health, and quality of life in people of all ages.

What are physical therapy licensure requirements?

  • Physical therapists must have completed at least four years of college, have graduated from an accredited professional physical therapy education program, and have passed a state-administered national licensure examination.

  • In addition, physical therapists who are members of the American Physical Therapy Association must comply with the Association's "Code of Ethics & Guide for Professional Conduct" and the "Standards of Practice for Physical Therapy."
